This pair of Giant Squirrels Ratufa affinis are well known to the researchers at the Danau Girang Field Centre based next to the Kinabatangan River in East Sabah. Every day they visit this large Binuang Tree Octomeles sumatrana next to the restaurant to feed on the bark. They appear to be eating both surface flakes of bark, which does not damage the tree and the the living cambium, which does damage the tree.
