Cynopterus bat “harem tent” at Sepilok

Gina Hamilton showing a “harem tent” created by a male fruit bat Cynopterus brachyotis to attract  female bats to his harem  breeding group.  Harem tents  are created by the male biting through the main support of large leaves, usually banana or palm leaves.  In this case these are Livistonia fan palm leaves.

All the harem tents were empty when we visited the Sepilok Discovery Garden  on 28 September 2014.
The Rainforest Discovery Garden at Sepilok is full of interesting plants  with excellent  signs and information panels.
