Red Langur Presbytis rubicunda is a leaf eating primate endemic to the island of Borneo.
For many years there have been two habituated troops of Red Langurs living in the forest next to Tawau Hills Park HQ in East Sabah, Malaysian Borneo.
The photos in this article show one of the Tawau Hill Park Red Langur groups consisting of 4 individuals.
In May 2024 when these photos were taken the group consisted of a single white adult alpha male and two red females one of them nursing a white infant about a year old.
Nearly always at least one of the individual adult Red Langurs at Tawau Hills has retained the pale coat color of a juvenile.
Juveniles are born white and slowly turn maroon red over a period of around 18 months. You can see this happening in the photos. The infant male was born pure white but his coat is slowly turning the same color as his mother. His father the white adult remains pure white.
Both of the Red langur groups at Tawau Hills Park HQ are habituated and frequently feed on the Morning Glory Ipomoea cairica leaves and flowers that cover the fencing surrounding the car park.
