Deramakot Forest Reserve  in Central  Sabah, Malaysian Borneo is  a model Forestry Management Unit ( FMU) used  to train  FMU concession owners (logging companies)  how they can produce FSC certified timber by integrating conservation with sustainable logging.

As a result of strict management by the Sabah Forest Department  poaching is non existent and  Deramakot is  the most productive site in Borneo for wildlife night drives, including regular sightings of  Clouded Leopards and Marbled Cats.

There are at least six known salt licks at Deramakot which attract a large variety of wildlife as  shown on the map below.
