Large Sunda Tree Mouse Chiropodomys major feeding on the small fruits of Dendrocnide stimulans at Sayap Station on the western slopes of Kinabalu Park.
Chiropodomys major is a scarce Borneo endemic locally common in hill forest on Kinabalu.
Dendrocnide stimulans (Stinging Tree) in the URTICACEAE plant family is a common forest shrub widespread in Borneo and throughout S E Asia.
The leaves and hanging purple flower clusters of D. stimulans are covered in stinging hairs which are highly irritant and touching the hairs can cause severe pain and irritation which can last for days.
