Pongam is a common coastal tree in Borneo growing at high tide line along sandy shores. Pongam is in the bean family Leguminosae and the beans are distributed by sea currents from southern Japan south to Australia and east to India. The leaves and roots have anti-bacterial properties and are used by locals for many medicinal purposes.
