Jentink’s Flying Squirrel Hylopetes platyurus feeding in a fruting oak tree next to the road between Kinabalu Park HQ and the Timpohon Gate on Kinabalu at c. 1650 m asl. This was one of 3 species of flying squirrel observed on two succesive nights in the same oak tree. The other two flying squirrels were the Spotted Giant Flying Squirrel and Horsefield’s Flying Squirrel.
Although rarely seen, these 3 species of Flying Squirrel have all been previously recorded on Kinabalu at this level. No other species of flying squirrels are known from this height on Kinabalu.
