This is the smallest mammal found in Borneo with a total adult length of around 8 cm. This shrew is locally common in virgin forest throughout lowland Borneo.

Shrews are often found dead on forest paths because their flesh is toxic with a bad smell to predators so a musang (civet) or cat  may pounce on a shrew and kill it but then refuse to eat it.
