Vordermann’s Flying Squirrel is somewhat of a mystery mammal in Borneo with only two records to date.
One of the records is from peat swamp forest in Brunei the other from hill forest in East Kalimantan which may be a mistake. Vorderman’s Flying Squirrel appears to be locally common in the peat swamp forest surrounding the Kinabatangan Wetland Resort (KWR) near Kg Abai on the Kinabatangan river in East Sabah.
The Kinabatangan Wetland Resort (KWR) is located in virgin peat swamp forest within the river mouth delta of the Kinabatangan River in East Sabah. The surrounding peat swamp forest is rich in wildlife. The KWR location is at the ecotone between fresh and brackish water.
Thanks to Caroline Bowman and KWR guides Dino and Andis for information and photographs.
