Large Treeshrew: Introduction

Large Treeshrew  Tupaia tana race: T.t.paitana the most common race in Sabah and NE Kalimantan. Large Treehrews are  both the largest and the most common of the 9 treeshrew species found in Borneo. Trapping records indicate that this Large treeshrew is 3 times more common in logged forest than virgin primary forest.

Large Treeshrew Tupaia tana is very variable in coat colour  and 10 different races (mapped above)  have been recognised  based on differences in coloration.
