Whitehead’s Pigmy Squirrel, Rafflesia Center, Crocker Range

Whitehead’s Pigmy Squirrel  Exilisciurus whiteheadi at the Rafflesia Centre in the Crocker Range, Sabah. This squirrel is endemic to the mountains of Borneo where it replaces the Bornean Pigmy Squirrel Exilisciurus  exilis which is endemic to the  lowland forests of Borneo.

Note that Whitehead’s Pigmy Squirrel often feeds on surface bark but in this case is either feeding on lichens or on insects hiding under patches of lichen.
