Flying Foxes, at Ba’Kelalan, NE Sarawak

Once abundant in lowland forests, the Large Flying Fox  Pteropus  vampyrus has now vanished from large parts of Borneo.

The reason is mainly due to  hunting for food but Flying Foxes are also regarded as a pest by fruit farmers.

Photos taken by Andy Paul at  975 m asl at Ba’Kelalan in the far NE corner of Sarawak in the foothills of Gunung Murud, Borneo’s second highest mountain.

Ba Kelalan adjoins the Pulong Tau National Park.  Pulong Tau includes Gunung Murud, (2423 m), Borneo’s second highest mountain after Kinabalu.
